The Beenleigh Ukulele Group has been described as the perfect event for “old beginners”.
Founder Collin Hamblyn said the group, which meets every Friday, is a space for retirees looking to learn – but also for people of any age and ability.
“We take anybody who walks through the door,” he said.
“It doesn’t take long to start knocking a tune out on the ukulele.”
The group was started in 2017, and meets every week at the Beenleigh Neighbourhood Centre, from 12.45-2.45pm.
“There is scarcely a song or tune that could not be played and sung with a ukulele,” co-founder Pat Hamblyn.
Mr Hamblyn said all it costs to participate is a donation, which is given to the centre, and $1 for coffee and a biscuit.
