Speeding drivers hit with hefty fines

A 16-year-old learner driver has been fined $2538 after allegedly speeding at 122km/h without a supervising driver or L-plates in Logan Reserve.

State Highway Patrol officers detected the Logan teenager travelling 52km/h over the 70km/h limit on Logan Reserve Road on September 25.

Police said the boy held a learner licence but was driving without a supervisor and had failed to display L-plates.

He received three traffic infringement notices, attracting 14 demerit points and a six-month high-speed licence suspension.

In a separate incident, a 20-year-old Burleigh Heads woman was allegedly caught travelling at 139km/h in an 80km/h zone on Veresdale Scrub Road at Gleneagle on September 21.

Police said the woman accelerated after turning onto the road from Fields Road.

She received a $1986 fine, eight demerit points and a six-month high-speed licence suspension.
