In a game of election campaign hypotheticals, LNP candidate for Springwood Kirrily Boulton has inadvertently thrown out a challenge to council to give council what council seems to want.
In an announcement last week, Ms Boulton promised the electorate $1.5 million from state coffers to help build a water play area at Springwood Park.
It’s part of a collaborative strategy to slowly tick off a wish list presented to her prior to the election, in this case Division 1 Councillor Lisa Bradley.
However, council doesn’t currently have any plans to improve the park. Neither do they have any money set aside.
That won’t happen until Cr Bradley convinces colleagues in the council chambers to vote her way and stump up whatever their share of the water park will cost.
If of course, LNP manages to win back government.
Ms Boulton says the easy option would be to find money for a study.
Such a study would perhaps determine whether people actually want the water park – when it already seems they do.
“I’d rather get things done,” Ms Boulton says.
“In the heat of a Logan summer, families will be able to enjoy the water play park, without having to fight traffic going to the beach or buying tickets for the whole family to enter a local pool.
“I look forward to local families making wonderful memories here, for years to come.”
A council spokesperson said it wasn’t appropriate for council to comment on election promises.
