The federal government continues to support education across Australia, including initiatives like the BUSY Schools program.
I was invited recently to visit the BUSY School in Shailer Park, where I met CEO Lee Aitken and principal Shane Blood, as well as some of the staff and students.
I was extremely impressed by their learning model, which emphasises small class sizes and high levels of support for each student’s particular needs.
There are 180 teenagers, aged between 15 and 19 years, attending the bustling campus, which is already outgrowing its space.
That’s why your government has allocated $650,000 to help finance a $1.3 million redevelopment of the site.
The plans include five additional classrooms, an arts and music room, resource room, breakout spaces, five withdrawal rooms and a staff work room.
There will also be a new office and reception area, disabilities amenities, a kitchen, communications room, storerooms, stairs and a new lift.
In addition, the Shailer Park campus also has plans to add a tuckshop and outdoor learning centre, as well as additional disabilities amenities.
The total cost of this stage of the project is almost $390,000, with the federal government providing $190,000 of funding.
Funds for the Loganlea Early Learning Centre are an example of how I and the government have been able to help out schools and childcare centres across our region.
Since 2019, $1 million of additional funds has been spent at local schools and early learning centres.
