Sizzler’s Loganholme store, at Hyperdome, will close its doors next month.
The brand has been active in Australia for 35 years, but will permanently close its nine remaining restaurants on November15.
Collins Foods Limited, the owner of the Sizzler brand in Australia, made “the difficult decision” to not renew the leases after sales have been slow to recover from peak COVID-19 impacts.
“Of the three restaurant brands which Collins Foods operates, Sizzler has been hardest hit during theCOVID-19 pandemic as it is based around a casual dining concept, unlike Collins Foods’ KFC and Taco Bell brands,” a statement from the company said.
“Sizzler’s dedicated staff have been informed of this decision and offered appropriate redundancy packages and access to outplacement support, though Collins Foods is looking to redeploy as many affected Sizzler employees as possible to its KFC and Taco Bell network which continue to grow.”
Collins Foods CEO Drew O’Malley said: “This has been an incredibly difficult decision and not one we’ve made lightly, especially given the impact it will have on our dedicated Sizzler staff and customers in Australia.
“Sizzler has been a much-loved Australian family restaurant for the past 35 years. However, dining trends and consumer preferences have evolved during this time away from Sizzler’s casual dining, restaurants in suburban locations.
“Collins Foods operates in an intensely challenging and competitive environment and for the past five years we have assessed ways to viably retain our Sizzler Australia restaurants alongside our 255 KFC and Taco Bell outlets in Australia.
“We are extremely grateful to our dedicated staff, suppliers and customers for their support over the past 35 years.”
