Six people assessed, two dogs killed in Rochedale South blaze

Two people have been injured and two dogs killed following a house fire at Rochedale South this morning (Tuesday 18 June).

A Queensland Ambulance Service spokesperson said a total of six people were assessed by paramedics.

Two patients, a 33-year-old man and 29-year-old women, were treated for smoke inhalation and “superficial burns”, but were not hospitalised.

The others were physicially unharmed.

It is understood three dogs were at the property at the time of the blaze.

Police said the home’s occupants were able to save one of the dogs, but the two others died “as a result of the fire”.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesperson said the fire began at around 9.11am.

By the time crews arrived at the corner of Rochedale Road and Netherby Street, the 200sqm brick home was “well involved”.

The spokesperson said around five crews were needed to fight the fire, which was “under control” by 9.53am.

He said fire investigators were currently on scene, and the matter was in police hands.

“A crime scene has been declared and investigations into the cause of the fire are underway,” a police statement said.

“Anyone with information is urged to contact police.”
