Shoppers to benefit from government support

All levels of government are getting behind Logan Rewards, a new program that gives back to shoppers who remain loyal to local businesses.

When shopping with local retailers, dining at local cafes, playing at local venues, Logan residents and visitors can earn points by presenting their membership barcode at the checkout.

“Earn points every time you shop, dine and play. Then redeem for exciting gifts, rewards, discounts and offers,” MyCity Rewards director Simon Holt said.

“And look out for tradies who’ll also be offering points to customers.”

The program, supported by the jointly-funded Commonwealth-State Disaster Recovery Funding Arrangements (DRFA), is managed by the same people who bring the Logan community its local news service MyCity Logan.

After joining the program at www.loganrewards.au or loading the Logan Rewards app in either the Google or Apple stores, people can immediately earn points that can later be redeemed for gift cards, products and sometimes awesome discount vouchers.

“Keep an eye on the app every week to see which new stores are joining the program,” Mr Holt said.

The Economy Recovery Plan for Logan is supporting a number of initiatives which are built to throw much-needed support behind businesses who’ve been doing it tough through severe weather.

“People will be familiar with the rewards programs offered by big stores, supermarket chains and airlines,” Mr Holt said.

“This works in a similar way. Load the app to your phone, sign up as a member, and show your barcode at participating outlets where they’ll give you points just for shopping, eating or playing like you normally would.

“Keep collecting points from a wide variety of stores and you’ll be rewarding yourself with all sorts of goodies in no time.”

Logan Rewards can be downloaded now by residents of Logan or visitors on either the Apple Store or Google Play, or go to the website at loganrewards.au

“We wanted to build a program which gives local businesses – however large or small – the chance to compete with the multinationals,” Mr Holt said.

“So we invested in technology which would enable multiple businesses to feed into one massive rewards program.

“It’s a win-win. Businesses have a great opportunity to give back to the people who are supporting them, and shoppers are rewarded every time they go through the checkout.

It’s never been more important to support our local businesses. The reason for government support is to help businesses who’ve been doing it tough during weather events.

“We are well aware of the impact cost-of-living pressures are having on local businesses,” Mr Holt said, adding this was a cost-effective way for local businesses to connect with their communities.

“Storms and floods took their toll during a significant weather events over recent summers, so it is important for the local community to come together to support each other.”

“Every bit helps, and Logan Rewards gives back to people who shop locally, encouraging people to be part of their local business community – and vice versa, businesses an opportunity to help people who are hurting during cost-of-living pressures.

“If that means relief at the checkout for customers, then it’s a terrific outcome.”
