Search for girl, 9, ends in tragedy

For the second time this month, a widespread search for a missing child has ended in heartbreak.

An appeal was sent out by police last night, soon after the child was reported missing.

The girl, aged 9, was seen at an address along Palara St in Rochedale South at around 6.15pm, but had not been heard from since.

She was believed to have gone missing near floodwaters.

Ambulance officers were called to the scene soon after 6.40pm.

Tragically, her body was found late last night.

Family are requesting privacy at this difficult time.

Police said they did not believe there were any suspicious circumstances and would prepare a report for the coroner.

In their initial alert, police called on public assistance to help locate the girl.

She was described as Caucasian with brown hair and was last seen wearing a light blue shirt.

Police and family were concerned due to her young age and believed she may be travelling on foot in the area.
