Schools get holiday facelift

Parents doing the school run will notice a difference at two local schools which received a facelift over the school holidays.

The upgrade of Woodridge State School carpark and the refurbishment of St Paul’s School carpark have been delivered with funding support from council divisional funding.

Division 2 Councillor Teresa Lane said parents had expressed concerns about the layout of the drop-off and pick-up areas and were keen to see them redesigned.

Council’s roads engineers redesigned the carpark after an audit and consultation with parents and the school.

While wet weather in recent weeks has delayed works at Woodridge State School, the full carpark is expected to be open within a fortnight of school resuming.

“We ask parents to be patient during the morning and afternoon drop-off periods,” Cr Lane said.

The new carpark includes a dedicated drop-off and pick-up point with safe waiting areas, new fencing to stop students darting in front of moving cars and two new dedicated wheelchair access parking bays with wide connecting paths.

Work at St Paul’s School includes new connections from the school to the footpath and the relocation of the school lollipop crossing.

This project also has disability compliant crossing ramps, new line markings for the carpark, a new drop off and pick up area and some landscaping.

Other projects being funded from the same pool include a safe crossing point in Polaris Avenue (under consultation), new
line markings at the rear of Kingston State School and a review of parking options at Kingston State School, Woodridge North State School and Logan City Special School.
