Salvos appeal needs your help

A ROOM of about 300 politicians and business people last week heard why the Salvation Army is so important to their community.

Kevin Lawlor spoke openly about how he’d lost everything – his business, his marriage, his life. He turned to drugs before the Salvos stepped in to help.

Videos told emotional stories of domestic violence and homelessness, and how the Salvos had reached out with a helping hand.

It was all part of Logan’s launch of the The Salvation Army’s annual Red Shield Appeal, with all funds raised locally staying local to help ensure no one is left in need in our community.

Now in its 58th year, the Red Shield Appeal is aiming to raise $5.4 million in Queensland and $15,000 in Logan.

The Salvos need community members to volunteer or support their local Red Shield Appeal in any way they can.

“We’re so grateful to the Logan community, which has always rallied together and supported the
Red Shield Appeal,” Captain Anthony Hunt from Logan Corps said.

“This year is no different – we need the help of community members more than ever as we continue to support those who have felt the devastating impacts of the past couple of years.

“From the generous support during last year’s Red Shield Appeal, we were able to provide support to vulnerable families at Christmas time through our longstanding Christmas Cheer initiative as well as branching out to provide mentoring and capacity building with young mothers through the BUMP program hosted at The Family Place.”

Along with The Salvation Army’s focus on Family and Domestic Violence, money raised locally this year will also help to further expand existing programs.

“We cannot do what we do without you. If you have the means, please consider becoming a volunteer or donating to the Red Shield Appeal this year. Your generosity and support will help us to leave no one in need,” Captain Hunt said.
