Funding wouldn’t be a problem if the Logan City Council (LCC) didn’t waste their money.
When I go past LCC roadworks I see 6 to 8 people standing around watching and occasionally one person is working.
Those standing around are mostly managers and their lackeys who get higher pay than the one working.
These projects take half a year or more when a proper working team could complete them inside a month.
Us locals suffer traffic delays and disruption, the productivity and management is wasting heaps of money and time.
The LCC gets more money from developers than they get from rates. Infrastructure charges, application fees on every item in the development adds $150,000 to the price of a building block.
The regional Planning Authority restricts supply of urban footprint land adding $100,000 to the cost of a new house block.
An 8 ha block with an ordinary house can be bought for $2million. When it goes into the urban foot print its price rises to $18million. It can become 160 house blocks.
The urban foot print is deliberately restricted so developers can still make a profit after ???? is protected under the Privacy Act.
LCC forms have a tick box for commercial in confidence. This makes all deals with LCC secret under the privacy act. So deals with kick backs are protected under this act.
This wasteful and possibly corrupt council is adding $250,000 to the price of a block of land when without their and the Regional Planning Authority’s involvement it would be $50,000 + possibly a small bit more.
This cheating on our young people causes the husband and wife to have to work to keep their house. The wife can’t stay home and have a family. It is a genocide against our future population.
I suggest the LCC advertise all work requirements on their web site so all local business can quote. Then put all the quotations on their web sites allowing comments.
They also show the winning bid. When the job is finished the outcomes are made available for everyone to see. This is an open, competitive and accountable to the residents system that will dramatically improve their efficiency and save them enormously.
They won’t like it because they will not be able to do private deals with kick backs. If their own people want to fork for the LCC they can also quote and compete with all the others. Based on what I have seen no LCC employees would win any contracts.
