The journeys of the 4000 newborns who enter the world every year at Logan Hospital are set to be smoother thanks to a newly refurbishment maternity ward.
The new Maternity Assessment Centre (MAC) is the final piece of an $18.8 million maternity refurbishment puzzle that has delivered a new maternity inpatient unit and new neonatal unit, as well as expanded birthing suites with birthing pools.
The opening of the MAC also includes the opening of a new maternity access road, providing direct access to the ward for patients.
The centre’s services will help provide vital care and services for women, babies and families in modern, state-of-the-art facilities, according to the hospital.
Logan Hospital executive director Anne Coccetti said the opening of the MAC was a celebration and an acknowledgement of the staff who worked tirelessly every day to provide high quality maternity care.
“Our staff come to work every day to make a difference in the lives of our patients and their families, and these beautiful new facilities are what our community deserves,” she said.
“The new Maternity Assessment Centre provides assessment and care for women with pregnancy related concerns or complications and is now directly linked to the Birthing Suites and Maternity Inpatient Unit.
“We are also so excited to now have direct access and dedicated drop off point into a new Maternity reception area 24 hours a day which means women in labour can arrive straight to where they need.”
