Resident threatened with machete in alleged burglary blunder

A Greenbank resident was allegedly threatened by a man with a machete, who has since been charged with attempted burglary and car theft.

Police received calls on the morning of Saturday 2 March, reporting a “prowler” wearing a black balaclava who was attempting to enter a Greenbank home.

Jimboomba police said the man first attempted to break into a car parked in the driveway before trying to open the front door of the home.

The man allegedly “threatened a resident with a machete before he entered an alleged stolen vehicle and left”.

“Police conducted CCTV inquiries at the offence location and neighbouring houses and were able to quickly obtain footage of the man and the vehicle,” a police statement read.

“A short time later the alleged stolen vehicle was located and recovered by police at a Wynnum address.”

Later that day police received another call in relation to the man over another allegedly stolen vehicle.

The Dog Squad and Polair tracked the man to a Brisbane address, where he was arrested.

A 26-year-old man from Manly West was charged with one count of enter premises and commit indictable offence, three counts of enter dwelling and commit indicatable offence, one count each of receive tainted property, attempted enter dwelling and commit, attempted unlawful entry of a vehicle, going armed as to cause fear, two counts of unlawful use of a motor vehicle, one count each of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, wilful damage and attempted enter dwelling with intent to commit an indictable offence.

He is scheduled to appear in the Brisbane Magistrates Court on March 8.

“Police are thankful for the assistance provided by the community in supplying CCTV footage in a timely manner which allowed for the recovery of two stolen vehicles and the arrest of the man allegedly involved,” police said.
