THE Rec Club at Logan Central has chipped in with a $10,000 donation to GIVIT after the floods.
Woodridge MP Cameron Dick introduced the club to the charity as part of the government’s drive to encourage businesses to support flood clean-up and recovery efforts.
In reference to the 2011 floods, club manager Steve Ryan said: “I never thought we’d see an event like that repeated in my lifetime but the club is fortunate to be in a position to once again help the Logan community in some small way.”
The Rec Club hasn’t been without its fair share of problems since being established in the 1970s.
The club went into receivership in 1999, traded through and came out of receivership in 2004. The club was able to buy back the facility just before Covid.
“There remains a significant number of staff and members who remember these interesting and difficult times, which makes it even more satisfying for us to now be in a position to make donations such as these to the Logan community that’s been supporting us for all this time,” Mr Ryan said.
The Rec Club is also planning to hold a charity bowls tournament on the last weekend of May and will invite competitive bowlers from other clubs around Brisbane.
