Rape and grooming charges laid, Underwood

A 29-year-old man who allegedly met up with an underage girl after chatting online has been charged with rape and underage grooming.

Police allege the man had used an online chat platform to communicate with a 14-year-old girl.

“They met two times in June 2024,” police said in a statement.

On 10 July, a report was made to police, who “immediately” began investigating.

Officers executed a search warrant at an Underwood property the following day and took the 29-year-old man into custody.

He has since been charged with two counts of rape, and one count of grooming child under 16 years.

He is next due to appear in Wynnum Magistrates Court on 16 September.

“Detectives are continuing to investigate this matter further and are appealing to anyone who may have experienced similar to come forward,” police said.
