Police-involved shooting in Logan follows stolen vehicle pursuit

Police are investigating a shooting incident in Crestmead following a pursuit involving two stolen vehicles last night, October 18.

A man remains in hospital after being shot by police during the standoff.

The incident began around 6:40pm when officers, with support from POLAIR, began tracking a stolen Suzuki Vitara in the Browns Plains area.

During the pursuit, the man fired shots at police multiple times.

A tyre deflation device was deployed, forcing the driver to abandon the vehicle near Central Court, Hillcrest at approximately 8:20pm.

The suspect fled into a waiting stolen Kia Cerato, which was again tracked by POLAIR to Bix Court, Crestmead.

Police negotiators and specialist units arrived at the scene around 8:40pm, initiating a standoff.

An emergency declaration was issued under the Public Safety Preservation Act (PSPA), with police advising the public to avoid the area.

The standoff ended around 12:40am on October 19 when the man was shot by police at the Crestmead address.

Immediate medical assistance was provided before the suspect was transported to the Princess Alexandra Hospital for further treatment, where he remains.

The Ethical Standards Command has launched an investigation into the incident, with oversight from the Crime and Corruption Commission.
