Photographers are being urged to capture the people, landscapes and everyday realities of Logan’s rural areas for a nationwide competition.
Logan’s 957sq km area extends beyond its urban centres into rural and rural-residential communities along the city’s southern, western and eastern edges.
Information published by the Logan Office of Economic Development says those areas have historically supported cattle grazing, horse breeding and agistment, dairy farming and sugar-cane production.
Rural Aid chief executive John Warlters said the competition helped bring rural Australia closer to city audiences.
“It opens a window into the everyday realities, the challenges, and the incredible strength of farming communities,” Mr Warlters said.
Entries remain open for Rural Aid’s 2026 Spirit of the Bush photography competition, which invites amateur and experienced photographers from across Australia to submit images of farming and regional life.
Mr Warlters said entrants did not need professional equipment or photography experience.
“You do not need to be a professional photographer to enter,” he said.
“Some of our most moving and memorable images come from people simply capturing life as they see it, honest, raw and real.”
The competition began in 2020 and has since created an annual collection documenting working properties, rural communities, family life, hardship, humour and the Australian landscape.
“Every year we are reminded just how powerful a single image can be,” Mr Warlters said.
“These photographs do not just show us the bush, they tell us its stories, its resilience, and its heart.”
Photographers can submit high-resolution images showing rural and regional Australia, including working farms, sweeping landscapes and candid moments involving people living in the bush.
A judging panel will select 12 photographs, with each winner receiving a $250 prepaid Visa card.
Entries close at 5pm AEST on Friday, 31 July.
Entrants retain ownership of their photographs but grant Rural Aid a non-exclusive licence to use submitted images through its social media, websites, newsletters, fundraising materials and printed publications.
