Concerns about hooning in Yarrabilba have prompted a new petition to the Queensland Parliament, as residents report ongoing safety issues on key local roads.
Member for Logan Linus Power and Logan Division 4 councillor Nathan St Ledger launched the petition with local residents at Yarrabilba’s community centre The Buzz.
The petition focuses on sections of Waterford Tamborine Road, particularly between Camp Cable Road and Yarrabilba Drive, where large gatherings of drivers have been reported.
The intersection at Yarrabilba Drive has also been identified by residents as a frequent location for hooning activity, at times restricting access in and out of the suburb.
More than 1000 people have signed the petition so far.
It calls for measures including physical lane separation near the intersection, traffic-calming infrastructure, increased police resources and the installation of anti-hooning cameras.
“Our community is standing together against hooning; together, we can make a difference,” Mr Power said.
“Local Yarrabilba residents deserve to be able to drive on our roads safely and travel freely in and out of their home suburb.
“In the last parliament, we made it easier for police to identify and arrest hoons, but to do that, police need resources.”
Cr St Ledger urged locals to sign the petition.
“This is a big issue for our community and everyone’s safety.”
