Officials at Logan’s newest mass-scale vaccination clinic at Mount Warren Sports Centre are saying young people are responding to the call.
They said students were booking at the centre in large numbers.
The centre was opened on Saturday for vaccinations, and while initially taking 1000 vaccinations a day, it is expected to ramp up to 1500.
The centre was opened after a truck driver from Windaroo recently tested positive, along with a girl, aged just 4, who he was in contact with.
That caused more than 900 families from Windaroo State School and the girl’s daycare centre to be thrust into quarantine. Low risk meant most families were released early, and the school re-0pened.
“The large sporting venue will host up to 30 vaccination stations giving Beenleigh and Logan residents more opportunity to get their vaccine,” Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk said.
“I’d like to thank all involved including Queensland Health and Logan City Council for their hard work in getting this ready.
“And I’d also like to thank the people of Logan and Beenleigh who have been coming out in force to be vaccinated, keeping the community safe.”
The Logan Entertainment Centre Vaccination Hub has delivered more than 50,000 jabs since it opened in mid-July.
Last weekend, another scare saw exposure sites named from throughout South Brisbane, including nearby Mt Gravatt and Sunnybank.
