About 60 floats are scheduled to this weekend put Beenleigh on parade as they wind their way through the streets to the showgrounds.
The local Rotary Club has rallied the community to put on what they hope will be the best Cane Festival in years, if not ever.
Spokesperson Janee Hong said the relaunch in 2021 had been incredible, but this year’s parade and gala ball were looking spectacular.
The parade, on Saturday afternoon, starts and finishes at the showgrounds where there will be family entertainment.
“At the conclusion of the parade, the showgrounds will come alive with the presentation of official awards, food trucks, amusement rides, face painting and a laser light show,” Ms Hong said.
“This event will be free for the public to attend and enjoy.”
A gala ball will be on the following Saturday 20 May.
It’s the third gala at Beenleigh Events Centre since the return of the event in 2021 and has become one of Logan’s biggest festivals.
The gala dinner has a signature menu crafted to focus on local produce. There is live entertainment, dancing, auctions and raffles.
Money raised from Cane Festival events goes towards local projects, and this year’s charity partner is the Mini Farm Project at Loganlea SHS.
“There are now more than 21% of households experiencing severe food insecurity,” Ms Hong said.
“This means Aussies are skipping meals or going whole days without eating.
“Profits from the 2023 Cane event will go towards supporting the Mini Farm Project to provide fresh produce to charities that support the Logan region.”
Ms Hong said the 2021 Beenleigh Cane Parade & Gala Ball was during the heart of the pandemic, and was likened to a “community hug”.
This year, organisers hope people will again come out in droves to experience the spectacle of passing floats, bands, community groups and dancers.
“We can’t wait to see what creativity and passion the community holds for their floats and displays in 2023,” Ms Hong said.
She said Rotary Club Beenleigh had fixed the second Saturday in May for the parade in future years, and the third Saturday for the gala ball.
“Bring your family, friends, neighbours, and colleagues and help us continue to grow this iconic community festival back to its former glory as we celebrate the heritage of Beenleigh, our current community, and our future,” she said.
