The Logan and District Orchid Society meets on the third Tuesday of every month to learn about and grow orchids.
Starting in 1976, the society has now grown into a large and passionate group.
“It’s a very friendly community,” Jan McKenzie, a member of 15 years, said.
“The society encourages older people to stay interested in their hobbies. This is something people can take right into old age.”
According to Ms McKenzie, there were around 100 members pre-covid but that number has dropped to 55.
“New members are always welcome,” she said.
Ms McKenzie said the society meetings feature expert guest speakers as frequently as possible to educate members.
They often hold competitions, with judges reviewing their orchids to determine whose is best.
Membership is $20 for the year per person, or $25 for a family.
Meetings are the third Tuesday of every month, from 7.30 – 9.30pm at the Community Hall on Jacaranda Avenue, Woodridge. Dinner is included.
