I am calling for urgent safety upgrades to the lighting at Exit 34 on the M1, following ongoing concerns raised by local residents.
Many motorists have reported near misses and poor visibility at this exit, especially during peak traffic and wet weather.
Despite months of discussions with the Department of Transport and Main Roads, no funding has been allocated to address these issues.
I have been meeting with the department regularly to raise the concerns of drivers who rely on this exit every day.
With no progress made, community frustration has continued to grow.
In response, I launched a petition calling for immediate lighting upgrades to improve safety for all motorists.
The petition has already gained strong momentum, with around 400 residents signing on to demand action.
Locals have made it clear the current lighting is inadequate for such a heavily used section of the motorway, and the risks will only increase as traffic volumes continue to rise.
With state budget discussions underway, I am urging the Minister and Treasurer to prioritise funding for this essential project.
I remain committed to advocating for the safety of Macalister families and will continue pushing for a firm commitment.
