Open, honest dialogue is the answer

ANYBODY living in retirement communities has a right to be concerned.

We’ve seen the consequences of Covid outbreaks. Lives are being lost throughout our region, and all over the world.

Having staved the virus for so long, our region is only now starting to see what the pandemic can bring.

One of the issues which faces any retirement company, most specifically in the aged care sector, is protection of their brand.

The temptation during a crisis is to contain critical communications at an official level.

Such a tactic only generates uncertainty among those who might be impacted by an outbreak or any other event with health consequences.

Jeta Gardens is in the current spotlight, but all aged care facilities are facing similar challenging times.

What we’re all learning is that open and honest dialogue is the secret to the successful management of any crisis.

We hear it often in sporting circles that it takes a village to make a champion. It also takes a village to solve a problem, and the more open managers can be with their communities, the more comfortable people will be with a way forward – whatever that may be.
