New State Primary School
The Palaszczuk government is meeting the needs of the growing Macalister electorate with this years budget allocating the funds to acquire land for a new primary school.
To be located on Wuraga Road to cater for the growing suburbs of Holmview and Bahrs Scrub, school planning will commence following the finalisation of the purchase.
This much needed school will take pressure off Macalister’s two largest primary schools in Edens Landing State School and Windaroo State School.
The current timetable provided by Education Queensland indicates the first new primary school in the area in over 30 years will open its doors to students in Term One 2026.
Beenleigh State High School Hall construction commences
Just in time for the 2022 Paddock to Plate at Beenleigh State High School, visitors and guests will see work commencing on preparing the site of the new $12m hall.
Seeing the success of such community led events such as Paddock to Plate, the new hall was first announced by Premier Palaszczuk when she attended the event in 2019.
Following master planning work undertaken by the education department, the site of the new hall was decided in conjunction with the school and following community consultation.
Work will commence shortly with the new hall expected to open in time for Paddock to Plate 2023.
The hall will feature two indoor basketball courts, stage areas, and classroom and canteen facilities.
Clearing a Beenleigh bottleneck
The first instalment of an $8m funding agreement has been allocated in this years budget to address the traffic snarl road users experience at the City Road and Logan Street intersection in Beenleigh.
The first in a series of road upgrades under the Beenleigh Better Roads project, motorists will be able to use two right turning lanes into Logan Street for traffic coming off the M1, and an increase in the frequency and duration of left turns from Logan Street onto the M1.
Many motorists are familiar with the traffic that backs up onto the M1 roundabout during peak times, but with the intersection frequently listed as one of south-east Queensland’s most dangerous, the upgrade will also have a focus on the safety considerations of all users of the intersection.
Throwing some shade
Whether it’s presentation days, gala days, or just summer days, many of our sporting and community groups throughout Macalister will be keeping cool over the warmer months with their new branded marquees.
With the Macalister office marquees always in demand in the community, these clubs will have their own shade solutions to help with their community and sporting events.
Beenleigh Juniors, the Beenleigh RSL and Mt Warren Park golf course have already received theirs.
