Shailer Park local Ben Poulson and his wife moved to Logan from New Zealand in 1988.
They fell in love with the city and can’t imagine living anywhere else.
“We’ve lived in Logan all that time,” Mr Poulson said.
“We moved into the Shailer Park and Cornubia area in 1992 and have lived in the area ever since; We haven’t wanted to leave.
“It’s got everything that we love as a city, and it caters to a huge population of people; it’s a fabulous city.”
In 2018, Mr Poulson and his wife bought 34 Relimba Street in Shailer Park, which was built by an engineer and his family in 1984.
In the six years the couple have owned the house, they’ve renovated the property interiors, roughly 580sqm, installing new bathrooms, a new kitchen, and a fresh coat of paint in each room.
Outside, a deck, two sheds, and a carport have been added to the property.
“My dad was a chef, and so I’ve always enjoyed cooking, and so I would say the kitchen would be the highlight of the place, because it’s so spacious, you can do so much there, and it flows out onto a huge deck,” Mr Poulson said.
“I’ve taken over all the cooking duties because my wife has recovered from cancer, and she has some difficulties, but the kitchen is outstanding to work with.
“You can serve out onto the patio area, and you can be doing multiple things, like I might be cooking a meal, and I’ve got another oven in the second kitchen where I can be doing some baking.”
A self-contained unit on the ground floor of the main residence would suit homeowners who own their own business, those looking to make money via short-term rentals, or big families who may be living with multiple generations.
Mr Poulson said he rented the space out short-term.
“One lady who stayed with us during COVID-19 stayed for 16 months because she couldn’t go back to New Zealand, so she stayed,” he said.
“You could have someone stay there permanently, because it’s very it’s all self-contained, and it’s all on one level.”
“I think it would suit a big family because it’s got multiple levels, so you’ve got lots of options.”
Mr Poulson said he and his wife were sad to be leaving the property but that the property was a bit too big for them to manage.
“We’ve retired, and we just knew that it was time for us to have a simpler place that is on one level,” he said.
“I just hope that it’ll be a nice family that will enjoy it.”
After hunting for properties all over south-east Queensland, Mr Poulson said he and his wife decided to buy again in Shailer Park.
“We think Logan City is a great place for families, for people in business, for everything, and you get good value for money in the area.”
