New taste to city’s water

The city’s drinking water network is about to get a good clean out.

Logan City Council will be flushing the pipes that deliver drinking water with disinfectant.

The job is expected to take a few months, and the process reduces the risk of contamination and ensures clean and safe drinking water.

The network clean is completely safe but may result in a slight change to the taste and colour of the water, a council statement said.

Residents will be notified via mail before work commences.

The works began last week and would first impact a small number of neighbourhoods in Berrinba and Heritage Park.

Infrastructure Chair Teresa Lane said: “Logan Water is an award-winning provider of water and wastewater services to the people of Logan.

“While I acknowledge that some people can be put off by temporary changes to the taste of their water, these works are absolutely necessary to prevent outbreaks of E.coli and other nasties.

“Any unlikely changes in appearance can usually be resolved through running your tap for five minutes.

“These works are necessary to provide a safe, high quality drinking water supply service that safeguards public health and supports our growing community.”
