A new commercial and industrial development at Berrinba is expected to generate more than 200 jobs during construction.
The development, along the Logan Motorway corridor, was given the signal to begin construction during a sod-turning last week.
The new space follows the completion of a $512 million Logan Enhancement Project in late 2019, which improved road connections in the area.
“Construction on this six unit complex will create work for at least 20 sub-contractors and more than 200 individual workers at a time our local economy and local construction businesses need them most,” Mayor Darren Power said.
“We are proud to drive job creation and provide long-term economic support to the region in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.”
InvestLogan chairman Steve Greenwood said that despite a tough start to the year, the fundamentals of the Logan economy were strong.
“Following the recent rapid growth of industry in the area and continued investment in infrastructure, we are confident that the demand from commercial and industrial businesses will continue to be strong locally,” Mr Greenwood said.
“This project not only provides a stable and secure opportunity for investors, business owners, and even self-managed superfunds, but also provides long-term commercial returns for the benefit of the ratepayers.”
The project is situated in South West 1 Enterprise Estate, and is adjacent to the Berrinba Central development where the first stage is set for completion by the end of 2021.
The development will comprise six mixed business and industry units, ranging from 200 m2 to 250 m2 in area. Each of the units includes office and showroom space, individual amenities and a fully accessible high-clearance warehouse.
Construction on the development is expected to be completed in early 2021. Lory Construction has been appointed to deliver the project and it will be marketed by Corwells for sale and lease.
