New commercial precinct for Park Ridge

A hot new economic precinct has been slated for acreage next to the Park Ridge water tower on land formerly used for a poultry processing factory.

The 3-hectare development – open for sales this month until early September – will bring spaces for a range of retail and commercial businesses.

The land parcel occupies the historical site where Inghams Chicken was based. The company fought for better water infrastructure in the 1960s and 70s, resulting in the first major reticulation project for areas south of Browns Plains.

Once delivered in the 1980s, it made the region viable for mass industry and residential developments.

That legacy continues today with 3800 Mt Lindesay Highway, 10km south-west of Logan City and 26km south of Brisbane CBD.

Inghams Property, an offshoot of the poultry enterprise, is subdividing 9 lots for commercial use to start with.

The lots are within walking distance to public transport and a local shopping centre.

New stages after that will transform the remaining 30 hectares into a residential masterplan supporting more than 30,000 people and 13,000 jobs.

Savills marketing agent Will Carmen, in charge of land sales, said it will support job growth in the area.

“The reason for the economic precinct is to generate job growth,” he said.

“The lots will be commercially zoned for a range of retail uses through to childcare, car wash and also some low impact industry, but until we finalise what we’re doing, it’s a bit hard to know what exactly will go in there.”

Other desired uses for the spaces are for food and beverage, health care, offices, and warehouses.

Expressions of interest open now will continue through to September 8 at 4pm.

“There’s a range of $325 to $400 p/sqm depending on size and location but they are up for sale with closing date of offers on September 8,” he said.
