Member for Rankin Jim Chalmers claims the federal government has cut funding which was slated for additional safety measures in the City of Logan.
He says funding for safety equipment at the new Kingston Butter Factory was sidelined, despite recommendations the money should be spent here.
“Despite a clear recommendation to approve more than $953,000 in funding for lighting and CCTV upgrades at Logan City Council’s Kingston Butter Factory redevelopment, the Home Affairs Minister (Peter Dutton) cut the funding by more than half,” Mr Chalmers said.
“Peter Dutton rejected a further two Safer Communities grants in our community entirely.”
Mr Chalmers claimed the money went to Tasmania instead, where there was a by-election in play.
Scott Morrison and Peter Dutton talk a lot about Queensland – but when it comes to actually delivering and making our community safer, they’d rather use taxpayers’ money making Liberal seats safer,” he said in a pointed statement.
“Peter Dutton flew to Tasmania on a Airforce jet to handout cheques during a must-win by-election, but only five of the 53 crime prevention grants were given to communities like ours.
“How can they be on our side, when they are so busy looking after themselves?”
This is a government riddled with rorts, that has racked up a trillion dollars of debt, and whose cuts to wages and super will make the economy worse and leave too many Queenslanders behind.
