Meter reader killed in dog attack

A man has been mauled to death by up to three dogs at a Greenbank property on Saturday morning.

The man, Kane Minion, was contracted by Energex and was believed to be doing meter readings at the time of his death.

The dogs, believed to be a pitbull-mastiff cross, are in the Logan City pound, and Logan City Council has said they would not be put down until a police report was finished.

Police said they were preparing a report for the coroner.

At the property, there is a sign on fencing warning people of dangerous dogs.

Police and emergency services found the man lying unconscious in the front yard of the fenced property at Ison Road.

With serious injuries from a dog attack, the man, aged 42, had died at the scene.

“Details of the incident are still being examined, and a police investigation is underway,” a spokesperson for Downer Group said.

The group owns Skilltech, the firm contracted to conduct the meter readings.

“Downer is extremely saddened by this tragic loss. Kane has worked with Downer’s Skilltech metering business for more than seven years and was a popular member of the team.

“Downer extends our deepest sympathies to Kane’s family, and we will support them through this incredibly difficult time.”

Police found three dogs that were handed to council animal control officers.

The homeowners were not home at the time.

A crime scene was declared over the weekend, with Ison Road closed while detectives and scientific/scenes of crime officers conducted investigations.

Work Safe Austalia was called in to join the investigations.

“Energex has a very good system where they email and communicate with the owners of known places where dogs are used for the protection of family homes or where they know there’s aggressive dogs,” acting inspector Gary Worrell said.

“I believe that is the case before a contract goes to one of these residences or businesses so the dogs can be put away.”

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident continue. There is no further information available.
