Meals on Wheels needs your help

IF you’ve got time to spare, if you’re fit and if you want to help people who need meals delivered to them at home, Meals On Wheels needs you.

The organisation has branches at Beenleigh, Shailer Park, Logan City and Rochedale-Springwood and they all need more bodies to help with the excellent service they provide.

Food preparation and deliveries using your own or another volunteer’s vehicle are the main areas of need.

Springwood MP Mick De Brenni urged anyone with time to spare to get in touch with their local Meals On Wheels.

“It is a terrific organisation that does wonderful work providing nutritious meals for people who aren’t able to cook for themselves,” Mr de Brenni said.

“Volunteering is a great way to give back to our community and every minute spent helping others is greatly appreciated.”

In operation for 44 years, the Rochedale-Springwood branch operates from new premises at Priestdale which are leased from Logan City Council.

Three paid kitchen staff are assisted by volunteer kitchen helpers and drivers who deliver 446 meals every month.

Meals can comprise soups, main meals, desserts and juices plus hot and cold drinks.

Clients choose from menu items which change each month and can include salads if required.
