ON the weekend I attended the biggest Buddha Birth Day Festival in Queensland. And guess where it was? In Logan, of course.
It was held over the long weekend at the Fo Guang Shan Chung Tian Temple in Priestdale and thousands of people from all over Australia attended.
It’s a signature event for our city and the Temple is one of our biggest cultural tourist attractions.
There were markets, cultural performances, talks, meditation, guided temple tours, art exhibitions, kids’ activities and, of course, an incredible laser show on Saturday night.
I was honoured to be there with Venerable Manwang, the Temple’s Abbess, and so many representatives from the Buddha’s Light International Association from around the world who came to our city.
The themes for this year’ Buddha’s Birth Day Festival are co-existence and co-prosperity and they’re perfect for a city like ours.
You’ve heard me write many times about how Logan is the youngest, fastest-growing and most diverse in Queensland.
These themes of living and thriving together in peace are very important for our community.
Right now, in Logan, we are consulting with community representatives about a long-term strategic plan for our city’s future.
It’s called Transform Logan – and it’s all about creating a 50-year vision for city-wide goals and major projects.
We’re already working with a community reference group, schools and youth groups, local businesses and industry professionals.
We’re asking things like:
What do you want Logan to look like in 50 years’ time?
What do you love about Logan that you want to protect?
What changes do you think will make this city great?
I believe council makes better decisions when we listen to the community.
We have a unique opportunity. We are a young city that is only one third built which means we can design and build a city together. I’d love to hear the ideas of people from all over our city so that we can create a wonderful place for our kids and grandkids to live.
To be part of Transform Logan you just need to sign up for updates at haveyoursaylogan.com.au
Together, we can do amazing things for Logan and create a better quality of life for all.
