Marsden State High School Year 12 student Keisha-Anne Saluni was among the local talent featured in the 2026 Creative Generation – State Schools Onstage production held in Brisbane.
As a first-time participant in the show, Miss Saluni was a featured vocalist in a cast that included more than 2000 students from across Queensland.
She performed the show’s opening song Party Started, as well as Purple Rain, the Chic Mashup, Get Up Offa That Thing, Dancing in the Street and the closing number Golden.
Despite some nerves and hesitation during the audition phase, Miss Saluni said the production atmosphere was supportive from the very start.
“I felt really welcomed to the CGEN cast,” Miss Saluni said.
“It was a really supportive environment, which helped me feel comfortable, especially because it was my first year doing the show.”
Miss Saluni’s history with music began with piano in her early childhood, though her focus shifted toward vocal performance following a move to Brisbane.
She is currently a member of the Music Excellence program at Marsden and is studying a Certificate III in Music.
She credited these programs with providing the technical foundation required for her role in the arena-scale show.
“I loved meeting new people and getting to perform with them,” she said.
The production, which included five shows over three days at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre, offered a glimpse into the requirements of the professional arts sector.
Miss Saluni described the process as essential for those seeking a career in performance.
“I genuinely think it’s the best experience ever for anyone wanting to take the performing arts to the next level,” she said.
“It gives you a good insight to what happens in the industry and all the different aspects that go into putting on a professional show.”
Beyond the development of musical skills, the program was a key place for young musicians to network with others.
“I have made life-long friends and made industry connections that have given guidance for my future as a vocalist beyond high-school,” Miss Saluni said
Creative Generation—State Schools Onstage 2026 will be broadcast on the Nine Network later this year, although the time has not yet been released.
