A man is fighting for his life in hospital after his ute crashed into a stationary van on the M1 on Thursday night.
Police believe a yellow Mercedes-Benz van was stationary in a northbound lane at Albert River Bridge at about 7.05pm when a grey Mazda Bt-50 has “struck the rear of the van”.
“The driver of the Mazda, a 34-year-old Urangan man, was transported to Princess Alexandra Hospital with life threatening injuries,” a police statement read.
“The driver of the Mercedes-Benz van, a 51-year-old Alexandra Hills man, sustained minor injuries and was transported to Logan Hospital.”
Paramedics said the Urangan man suffered “life-threatening head injuries”, and needed to be freed from the ute after becoming entrapped.
All northbound lanes of the Pacific Motorway were closed, however reopened about 12.10am today.
Police said investigations were ongoing.
Anyone who witnessed the crash or has dashcam vision of the moments before the crash is asked to contact police.
