M1 upgrades set to roll on past 2022

YET another part of the M1 puzzle is set to be solved as a business case gets underway for upgrades between Daisy Hill and Logan Motorway.

The Logan Road to Loaganlea Road section of the Pacific Motorway is considered a key link on the M1.

And the business case is expected to ensure construction can roll on as soon as the current upgrade from Eight Mile Plains to Daisy Hill is finished.

“Logan and the rest of Southeast Queensland will be reaping the benefits for years to come when the M1 North project is finished,” Member for Springwood Mick de Brenni said.

“This includes better connectivity to public transport, with the extension of the South East Busway all the way through to Daisy Hill.

“The wider community will have the opportunity to view plans and ask questions in a comprehensive community consultation in mid-2022 once the business case is refined.

Transport and Main Roads minister Mark Bailey said the upgrade would increase capacity in both directions on the M1, continue the extension of the South East Busway and provide better active transport connections through to Daisy Hill.

“Last September (2020), we completed the first round of community consultation on the reference design for Stage 3A and the overwhelming response was that this phase of the project is fully supported.

“Progressing from the preliminary evaluation into the business case process is a strong signal that we are getting on with this desperately needed project.

“Now, we can ensure the preferred alignment is protected and consultation with any directly impacted property owners can begin.

“Discussions are also underway to ensure all current public services, such as police and ambulance, can remain in the area during construction and once construction is complete.”

Upgrades to the M1 between Daisy Hill and Logan Motorway have been budgeted at around $1 billion.

Federal Member for Forde, Bert van Manen said: “This $1 billion upgrade for the M1 from Daisy Hill to the Logan Motorway is an essential upgrade not only for the Logan community but for the thousands of commuters that travel on the M1 between Brisbane and the Gold Coast every day.”

Full community consultation on Stage 3A of the M1 Daisy Hill to Logan Motorway upgrade will take place mid next year (2022) and the business case expected to be complete by the end of 2022.
