Logan’s Ekka holiday won’t move

The Ekka long weekend won’t be postponed for Logan, with a declared public holiday remaining for this coming Monday, August 9.

While that will disappoint anyone hoping to postpone a long weekend due to lockdown, council says late notice would have created uncertainty for the community.

Brisbane’s People’s Day Ekka holiday, scheduled for next Wednesday, will be postponed.

A change to Logan’s holiday risked disrupting plans put in place by City of Logan residents, a council statement said.

It said school plans and public transport schedulers would be disadvantaged.

“The health, safety and wellbeing of staff and the community is council’s top priority,” the statement said.

In the past week, council has acted on the direction of the Queensland government and the chief health officer, and has closed facilities and restricted some services during the pandemic lockdown through to Sunday, August 8.
