Logan Village revitalisation plan approved

Logan Village may be on track to become a tourist destination following calls from residents to reinvigorate the area.

Logan City council, with the support of around 260 residents, endorsed a plan to reinvigorate the Logan River and Logan Village by providing easier and more attractive public access to the area.

The plan includes the creation of the Riverfront Precinct, which council said would be “a shared community place where people can exercise, relax and embrace the natural and heritage significance of the Logan River”.

“The community told us they want to enjoy our local waterways more and this plan identifies how that can happen,” Logan’s economic development chair, councillor Jon Raven said.

“Delivering the facilities that the community has asked for will ensure this beautiful part of the Logan River is not only popular for locals but also becomes a tourism destination in south-east Queensland.”

The plan outlines design principles for future development, including:

  • An accessible river where people can enjoy the natural beauty.
  • A healthy river and a flood resilient asset
  • A tourism destination with activities to attract people to Logan Village
  • A home for active pursuits such as walking, cycling and kayaking.
  • An authentic identity that respects and positively reflects local First Nations and pioneer history

These ideas were put to residents through a survey, which received around 260 submissions, as well as through a forum and on social media.

Council said the results were in favour of the plan, with many residents calling for “activation of the Logan River”.

Council said the plan would build on council’s pre-existing efforts in the nearby Logan Village Green, including a construction of new adventure playground, a skate bowl, a new cenotaph and the creation of the Logan Village to Yarrabilba Rail Trail.
