Logan Thunder claims national title in Queensland first

Logan Thunder’s U14 boys team have set a Queensland record by winning the 2025 Basketball Australia Club national championships.

The local team is the first Queensland boys basketball team to ever win a club national competition, which this year was held in Western Australia from 28 September to 3 October.

The girls’ team in the same division, U14, placed third in their championship game, putting both teams among the top three in Australia.

Basketball Australia said the results of both teams highlighted the success of Logan Thunder’s junior program.

“Queensland’s Logan Thunder underlined their reputation as one of the fastest rising junior programs, claiming the Boys Championship title to confirm their place among Australia’s best junior basketball clubs,” a spokesperson said.

The boys’ team overcame the North Adelaide Rockets with a score of 76 to 59. In the Queensland State Championship competition, the Thunder boys were undefeated.

Logan Thunder said the road to victory was challenging as they faced tough teams like the Bankstown Bruins and Nunawading Spectres.

A Queensland boys’ basketball team has never won a club national championship, Logan Thunder said.

The girls’ team also delivered an impressive performance in an equally competitive field against the country’s top teams.

“While the result did not fall their way in the semi-final, their determination and teamwork shone through, bouncing back the next day to finish the tournament in 3rd place with a Bronze medal,” Logan Thunder said.

The results of the tournament were ‘incredible’ for the Logan Thunder club and the City of Logan, Logan Thunder said.
