I’m thrilled that the Logan Senior’s Expo I organised through the Queensland Government, to be run on Tuesday February 27 at Logan Diggers Services Club, has been over-prescribed.
I know many seniors in the Woodridge Electorate are feeling the pressure from the increased cost of living that’s being experienced across the country and the world.
As most seniors and retirees aren’t seeing their incomes rise at the same times as their costs rise, it is so important they take advantage of the rebates and discounts on offer from the Queensland Labor
Government.
That’s why I organised the expo on Tuesday, and it is great to see so many people are going to attend.
Seniors can save money on a range of goods and services, including electricity, medical aids, public transport and vehicle registration.
For example, anyone with a Queensland Seniors Card is eligible to receive $1072 off their power bills.
To receive the benefit, seniors must contact their energy provider and share their seniors card details.
I would like to see all the seniors in the Woodridge Electorate and wider Logan area to take advantage of these rebates.
The Queensland Labor Government also offers eligible seniors and concession card holders 50 per cent off registration fees and public transport fares.
More than 134,000 eligible seniors currently have a 50 per cent concession applied to their car registration, saving more than $28.8 million per year.
Almost 500,000 Seniors and Pensioner go Cards are registered with Translink, providing access to half price public transport fares right around the state.
It is also an opportunity for me to hear first-hand from seniors about what is important to them.
That information is vital for us, as we do everything at our disposal to every Queenslander has opportunity not matter their situation.
The Queensland Labor Government is able to provide these concessions because of our strong budget position.
This position was created because of the resilience and strength of the Queensland economy to recover from the COVID pandemic, and our Government’s decision to receive a fairer share for Queenslanders’ coal resources.
