Logan Hospital updates well underway

Construction on Logan Hospital’s major expansion is powering ahead.

Concrete pouring is currently underway on the top floor of the vertical expansion of the existing emergency department building and work has also started on fitting out the new wards and services that will call this building home.

The $460 million expansion will deliver an additional 206 beds and treatment spaces as well as the refurbishment of existing clinical and support areas in other buildings.

This includes the first stage of a bigger kitchen finished earlier this month.

Manager of Logan Hospital Food Services Dudley Seneviratne said Stage One of the kitchen expansion included a new plating line, trolley storage, beverage station, cleaner’s store room and a temporary cold kitchen.

“The project now moves to Stage Two – building a new cold kitchen and offices,” Mr Seneviratne said.

“This work is a key enabler of the expansion, and will allow the hospital to provide meals for the additional beds coming online over the next two years.”

Work also continues on the Logan Maternity refurbishment project with construction underway on new birthing suites, including birthing pools for labour and birth.

A new special care nursery, maternity assessment unit, reception and 24-hour access road will complete the project.

The new Maternity Inpatient Unit opened in January this year, delivering six extra maternity beds and the ability for partners or carers to stay overnight for the first time.

The 1500 space multi-level car park opened to patients, visitors and staff in February.
