Logan Hospital expansion wins another construction award

The billion-dollar expansion of Logan Hospital has been recognised on the national stage.

The project, led by construction company John Holland, was named best health facility at the 2024 National Excellence in Building and Construction Awards.

This isn’t the first construction award for the busy hospital, which earlier in the year took home the project of the year award and best health facility over $20 million at the Housing and Construction Awards.

The John Holland team earned high praise from this year’s judges, who hailed the level of construction detail on $1 billion project as “nothing short of exceptional”.

The five-level vertical expansion was crafted above the live emergency and paediatric departments with no disruption, while several other departments, including the kitchen, were refurbished in existing buildings.

Master Builders Australia CEO Denita Wawn said the project was a “testament to the resilience and leadership that defines our industry”.

“Master Builders members continue to demonstrate their ability to deliver high-quality projects that set benchmarks for innovation and excellence in the industry,” she said.

“These awards celebrate not just the structures and projects but the people behind them – builders, subcontractors, and their teams who go above and beyond to transform communities.

The panel also commended the John Holland’s seamless integration of hi-tech services for patient care, and pivoting to complete works on time during COVID, and a flooding event.
