In 250 words or less, tell us about yourself and your community attributes.
I’m a long-term resident of Division 1, having grown up in Springwood and attending the local schools. I’ve also raised my own family in the same neighbourhood.
I hold a Bachelor of Accounting and bring a broad range of real-world experience to the table, including financial and senior management skills, community involvement and small business ownership.
I’m a Justice of the Peace and active in the community as a volunteer for the Rochedale/Springwood Meals on Wheels, the Logan East Community Neighbourhood Centre and I’m a member of the Rochedale/Springwood Lions Club. I’ve also cycled over 1500 kms for an Australian based charity that supports vulnerable children.
As a long-term resident and community volunteer, I have a passion for this area and believe that serving the community is a privilege. I believe local council is all about 100% commitment and dedication to the local area.

Why should people vote for you?
I will work hard, I’ll be involved and engaged and represent this community in the way we deserve.
I bring financial and senior management skills and business ownership experience to council.
This experience and my community involvement has given me the ability to actively listen, think laterally, consider multiple views, collaborate and make decisions.

What would you aim to deliver for your community?

– Upgraded community and sporting facilities so that we can provide further assistance for our community and engage our youth, families and seniors.
– Proactive planning for future infrastructure requirements, including protection of our beautiful green spaces.
– Creating a safer community, through installation of more safety cameras, ensuring our current infrastructure is maintained to a high standard and traffic safety needs are met.
– Championing for more events in this area to bring the local community together.

Why did you decide to run for council?
This has been my home for 36 years so I genuinely care about our community and have a deep sense of connection to the area. Logan is poised to be one of the fastest growing areas in South East Queensland so I believe it’s integral that going forward we have engaged councillors, who encourage innovation and bring fresh ideas to make this a great place to live.

Name: Alex Fisher

Occupation: Head of Strategy & Growth for yourtown, the organisation powering critical services for children and young people including Kids Helpline.

Age: 35

In 250 words or less, tell us about yourself and your community attributes.
I am a working Mum, experienced business leader and long-time resident of Division 1. I grew up in this area and I’m now raising my own children here and this experience has given me an incredible appreciation for the importance of community.

I’ve worked for the last decade in leadership roles in the not-for-profit, Disability and Child and Family sector, but ineffective representation and a desire for a better future for our area has motivated me to run for Council. I have extensive experience in advocating for vulnerable, marginalised and disconnected people and communities and I want to use this experience to deliver better outcomes for the residents of Division 1.

Why should people vote for you? The people of Division 1 deserve better representation from someone committed to the long-term future of our amazing suburbs and community. I have two young children who will grow up in this area, and I am committed to ensuring Division 1 is a great place to live and raise a family.
I’m results-driven and motivated by a desire to give back and will always be available when residents need help.

What would you aim to deliver for your community?
If elected, I will encourage innovation in service delivery and support initiatives that ease the impacts of rising costs of living. I will renew the focus on the fundamental role of Council and improve the community consultation process to ensure infrastructure projects deliver for residents. I will champion developments that improve the liveability of our area while protecting the unique features that make Division 1 such a great place to live.

Why did you decide to run for council?
I had been feeling increasingly frustrated and let down by our current representation following the delivery of a number of disappointing infrastructure projects and extended periods of absence. There has also been a shift towards younger, passionate candidates and Councillors that are committed to improving their local community and I believe this is a positive change for Logan and one that will lead to better outcomes for residents and future generations.

What suburb do you live in?
My family have just moved to Springwood from Rochedale South.

How long have you been in the area?
I’m a lifelong resident of Division 1 – I grew up here, I went to school here and now I’m raising my own children here.
