Two Logan bus drivers have been recognised among the best in the state, with Kate Penkeyman and Mary Hellesoe named finalists in the 2025 Queensland Bus Driver of the Year Awards.
Ms Penkeyman, who drives with Logan Coaches, and Ms Hellesoe from Clarks Logan City Bus Service, were selected from more than 1300 public nominations. They are two of three finalists in the South East Queensland Bus Driver of the Year category.
The annual awards recognise drivers who go above and beyond for their passengers and communities, highlighting those who help keep Queensland moving safely every day.
Voting for the awards is now open, giving passengers the chance to support their favourite drivers before polls close on Sunday, 22 March.
Acting Head of Translink Dean Helm said the awards were an opportunity for passengers to acknowledge the important role drivers played in daily life.
“Translink’s Bus Driver of the Year Awards celebrate the connections drivers build with their customers and the pride they take in serving their communities,” Mr Helm said.
“From school runs and daily commutes to weekend adventures, bus drivers play a vital role in keeping Queensland moving and this is the public’s chance to say ‘thank you’.”
Passengers who nominated Ms Penkeyman described her as one of the safest drivers on her route, saying they felt confident and reassured when travelling with her.
Ms Hellesoe was praised for her enthusiasm and friendly approach, with nominations highlighting her passion for driving and commitment to making passengers feel comfortable during their journey.
The awards include three categories: Regional Bus Driver of the Year, School Bus Driver of the Year and South East Queensland Bus Driver of the Year.
Winners will be announced at the Queensland Bus Industry Council’s Annual Gala Dinner and Awards Night in April.
