10.40pm: Prime Minister visits

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, Treasurer Jim Chalmers and Federal Minister for Emergency Management Senator Jenny McAllister visited the Logan City Council’s Local Disaster Coordination Centre today.

10.35pm: River levels

Bom has issued their latest river levels for the Logan and Albert rivers.

The Logan River at Maclean Bridge is currently at 11.04 metres and rising, above the minor flood level (10.00 m). With forecast rainfall, the Logan River at Maclean Bridge may reach the moderate flood level (13.50 m) early Monday. Higher levels are possible with forecast rainfall.

The Logan River at Waterford is currently at 6.05 metres and rising, above the minor flood level (6.00 m). With forecast rainfall, the Logan River at Waterford may reach the moderate flood level (7.50 m) overnight Sunday into Monday. Higher levels are possible with forecast rainfall.

The Logan River at Parklands is currently at 3.64 metres and rising, above the minor flood level (2.50 m). The Logan River at Parklands is likely to reach the moderate flood level (4.00 m) overnight Sunday into Monday. Higher levels are likely with continued heavy rainfall.

The Albert River at Beenleigh is currently at 5.47 metres and rising, above the moderate flood level (4.50 m). The Albert River at Beenleigh is expected to reach the major flood level (5.50 m) late Sunday evening. With continued heavy rainfall, the river level may reach around 6.00 metres overnight Sunday into Monday, with major flooding. Higher levels are possible with continued heavy rainfall.

The next update for river levels is due at 12am.


10.30pm: Weather update

Rain continues to fall across Logan and a severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for parts of Logan.

BoM has also said that 102 mm of rain was recorded at Carbrook over a 3 hour period.

6.51pm: Water supply

Water supply is good. Reservoirs in Logan are mostly running on generators, with some having power restored. Council is providing fuel to ensure water supply continues.

Call Logan Water on 3412 3412 and press 1 (24/7) if you have no water, sewer backflow, or missing manholes.


6.45pm: Energex and power

Because the wind has come down, Energex are now able to get out and do the work around Logan.

Worse case scenario until power can be restored to some of Logan is a maximum 7 days.

Energex has deployed half of their crews for the Southside region are in Logan.

Tomorrow their website will have an update for specific suburbs and the date the power will return.

6.43pm: From Mayor Jon Raven’s live – rain/flooding

Rainfall for the 24 hours from 9am was forecast 200-250mm and we are on target for that, with less than 50mm forecast for Monday. This is good news.

Based on current modelling we are expecting a moderate flood in the Logan River as it runs through our city. Which is much less than what we had in 2022 (which was well above the major).

Logan Reserve Road has water on the road and will be closed for a number of days until the Logan River falls below 4m

6.00pm: Australian Idol – Jake Whittaker

Something a bit different from the flood and rain news.

Stockleigh’s Jake Whittaker will be performing on Channel 7 tonight in the Australian Idol Top 12.

If you have power and reception, tune in from 7pm tonight and support a Logan musician.

5.55pm: BoM update – Floods

Flood levels are continuing to rise in the Logan and Albert rivers, with a chance we reach moderate and major flood levels.

The Logan River at Maclean Bridge is currently at 8.99 metres and steady, below the minor flood level (10.00 m). The Logan River at Maclean Bridge may exceed the minor flood level (10.00 m) overnight Sunday into Monday. With forecast rainfall, the river level may reach the moderate flood level (13.50 m) during Monday.

The Logan River at Waterford is currently at 5.25 metres and rising, below the minor flood level (6.00 m). The Logan River at Waterford may reach the minor flood level (6.00 m) overnight Sunday into Monday. With forecast rainfall the river level may reach the moderate flood level (7.50 m) during Monday.

The Logan River at Parklands is currently at 3.09 metres and rising, above the minor flood level (2.50 m). The Logan River at Parklands is likely to remain above the minor flood level (2.50 m) overnight Sunday into Monday.

The Albert River at Wolffdene is currently at 8.85 metres and rising, above the moderate flood level (8.00 m). With further intense heavy rainfall, the Albert River at Wolffdene may reach around the major flood level (10.00 m) overnight Sunday into Monday.

The Albert River at Beenleigh is currently at 4.92 metres and rising, above the moderate flood level (4.50 m). With further intense heavy rainfall, the Albert River at Beenleigh may reach around the major flood level (5.50 m) overnight Sunday into Monday.


5.43pm: Power outages

Energex says there are still 31,000 homes in Logan without power.

This has been fluctuating the last couple of days and with rain still falling, this could increase again.

3.20pm: Storm warning

To make matters worse, a severe storm warning has just been issued for parts of Logan.

“Very dangerous thunderstorms likely to produce intense rainfall that may lead to dangerous and life-threatening flash flooding and damaging winds were detected near Logan Village and Amity Point,” a statement said.

The storm is forecast to affect Slacks Creek by 3.50pm.

3.15pm: BoM flood update

The latest update from the bureau is in, with rivers likely to rise overnight and into tomorrow morning.

The Logan River at Maclean Bridge is currently at 8.99 metres and rising, below the minor flood level (10.00 m). The Logan River at Maclean Bridge may exceed the minor flood level (10.00 m) during Sunday evening. With forecast rainfall, the river level may reach the moderate flood level (13.50 m) during Monday.

The Logan River at Waterford is currently at 4.70 metres and rising, below the minor flood level (6.00 m). The Logan River at Waterford may reach the minor flood level (6.00 m) overnight Sunday into Monday. With forecast rainfall. the river level may reach the moderate flood level (7.50 m) during Monday.

The Logan River at Parklands is currently at 2.74 metres and rising, above the minor flood level (2.50 m). The Logan River at Parklands may remain above the minor flood level (2.50 m) overnight Sunday into Monday.

The Albert River at Wolffdene is currently at 8.45 metres and rising, above the moderate flood level (8.00 m). The Albert River at Wolffdene is likely to remain above the moderate flood level (8.00 m) overnight Sunday into Monday. Further rises are possible with forecast rainfall.

The Albert River at Beenleigh is currently at 4.62 metres and rising, above the moderate flood level (4.50 m). The Albert River at Beenleigh is likely to remain above the moderate flood level (4.50 m) overnight Sunday into Monday. Further rises are possible with forecast rainfall.


2.53pm: School closures

All schools in Logan will remain closed tomorrow, Monday 10 March.

2.45pm: ABC Brisbane down

2.40pm: Warm meals

The Islamic College of Brisbane will be providing warm meals from 4pm to 6pm today.

Located at 45 Acacia Road, Karawatha

2.31pm: Tips open

Landfill and transfer stations, except Carbrook, have been open since 1pm today.

Residents will be able to dispose of storm, flood and domestic waste free of charge.

If you have a larger load, more than the equivalent of 4 wheelie bins (2m³), council advises to take that to Browns Plains as it’s too big for the transfer stations.

Dumping will remain free until 5.30pm Sunday 16 March.


2.30pm: Connection issues

Just like most of Logan, MyCity Logan are battling power and connection issues.

9.35am: Flood waters are a no go

Queensland Health has reminded residents to stay away from flood waters.

“Flood waters are often contaminated by human waste, agricutlure or industrial wastes, chemiclas or creepy crawlies like spiders and snakes,” a statement said.

There is a high risk of infection by coming into contact with polluted water or soil, which can lead to diarrhoea and vomiting, wound infections, dermatitis, conjunctivitis, and serious diseases like leptospirosis.”

Some tips to avoid infection:

💧 Wear solid boots or shoes (not thongs) if you must enter shallow water.

💧 Wear gloves when handling items contaminated by floodwater.

💧 Wash hands thoroughly with soap and water before eating and after contact with floodwater or soil.

💧 Wash any household items or areas, including hard surfaces like floors or paved areas, that were contaminated by floodwater.

The Logan River at Waterford is currently at 2.90 metres and rising, below the minor flood level (6.00 m). Minor flooding may occur along the Logan River at Waterford late Sunday. Further rises to the moderate flood level (7.50 m) may occur during Monday with forecast heavy rainfall.

The Logan River at Parklands is currently at 1.34 metres and rising, below the minor flood level (2.50 m). The Logan River at Parklands may exceed the minor flood level Sunday afternoon. Further rises possible with forecast heavy rainfall.

8.30am: Good Morning

We are currently witnessing some heavy rainfall across parts of Logan which has caused some road closures across the city.

Energex have updated that there are currently 44,000 homes without power.
