One of the privileges of working in community newspapers – and there are many – is the learning curve.
Regardless of where I’ve been in the world, the access an editor has to their community is unparalleled, and nothing I’ve ever taken for granted.
Whether it be somebody sharing their heart-wrenching story, celebrating success, or telling something they’ve seen or heard which doesn’t meet the standards of that community.
Each and every time it happens – sometimes multiple times in a day – people are instilling trust in our ability to do that story justice.
There are times I’ll stew for hours on how to tell a story. And nobody gets it right all the time.
Regardless, it’s one of the most rewarding elements of our profession.
The other is to see our newspapers play their role as an essential community service – able to share information about events, clubs, programs and people.
It’s nice to think that everyone who picks up a copy of MyCity Logan is a little bit better off for something they’ve learned, read or seen.
To ensure this service is the best it can be, we are constantly asking for your help, to send us story ideas, events happening around you, and your thoughts on important issues.
For MyCity Logan to succeed as we are, we will maintain that it is not our newspaper. Rather, it is yours. And if we’ve missed your email or haven’t published what you’ve sent us, please persist. Each month, we’re producing more pages and more content.
Keep the information coming, Logan. You have a right to demand high standards of your newspaper.
