Shailer Park JP Stig R. Hokanson has been presented with a 40-year-service diploma from the Queensland Department of Justice.
It was also a time to welcome Rochedale South accountant Jonathon Peters, 38, as new Commissioner of Declarations.
“The Covid years were especially busy. JP’s in shopping centres were unavailable. Members of the public in need of a JP increased my traffic enormously,” Mr Hokanson said.
“The Justice of the Peace program is basically a labour of love, with no monetary rewards. Indeed, JPs have to purchase their official stamps from the Department of Justice and pay for all stationary and associated expenses.
“Yet, the rewards are plentiful. The exuberance of a university graduate wanting to have photo copies witnessed and endorsed, sometimes up to twenty pages, is one of the highlights as they set out on their professional journeys.”
Mr Hokanson is also, since 1983, a Commonwealth civil marriage celebrant and civil funeral celebrant in Logan City.
