Men’s mental health boost
Locally run groups really are the heartbeat of our community, and that’s why we’re investing more than $9 million in mental health community grants.
I was lucky enough to witness the incredible impact local groups have after Uncle Michael invited me to visit his busy Indigenous Men’s Group at Edens Landing.
Uncle Michael’s group helps local men to make lasting friendships, builds community, and helps to improve mental health and wellbeing.
We want to help local groups like this one thrive.
That’s why I’m so pleased that the Miles Labor Government has committed to providing this $9 million boost in community grants. We’re able to pay for it by making big businesses pay their fair share.
If you or someone you know works in the mental health space in groups like Uncle Michael’s, please apply.

Celebrating our manufactured homes win
Thousands of people in our community, many of whom are seniors, live in manufactured homes in residential parks. It means they own the house, but not the land underneath it. In the last few years, they’ve seen their rent go up and up, and cost of living is going through the roof.
This month, we came together to celebrate the fact that the Miles Labor government has passed new laws to limit rent increases and ban rent reviews that have been used to justify rental price hikes.
It’s all part of our Homes for Queenslanders plan, and I’m thrilled that Waterford residents will benefit from this incredible initiative.
It would not have been possible without the remarkable advocacy of so many residents – so it was a great opportunity to thank them today and to celebrate a great community win.
I want to hear from you
In August I’ve been door knocking in Waterford West, Tanah Merah, and Underwood.
It’s been wonderful to meet so many of you in our community and to hear your thoughts about cost of living, healthcare, road safety, and housing.
I have always fought for the very best outcomes for our community, which is why I’m so proud of:
• the major Logan Hospital expansion with more than 300 new beds, new birthing suites, and new operating theatres
• our investments into social and affordable housing like purchasing the former retirement home in Tanah Merah to provide a home for those in need
• our commitment to delivering 190 additional local bus trips in the Logan/ Waterford community to improve local routes
We’re doing a lot, but there’s always more to do.
I’m out and about in the community each week at mobile offices and doorknocking.
