An investigation has been launched into the death of a man taken into police custody on Monday night.
The Ethical Standards Command is investigating the death of the 46-year-old man following a police operation at Waterford West on Monday 17 August.
Police intercepted a vehicle on Kingston Road, near Beutel Street, about 6pm and arrested the sole male driver.
Queensland Police Service preliminary information indicates the man became non-compliant and police restrained him.
Shortly after, while in police custody, the man sustained a serious self-inflicted injury.
Police immediately provided first aid, however the man was declared dead at the scene.
The State Coroner has been advised and the Ethical Standards Command is investigating.
The investigation is subject to independent oversight by the Crime and Corruption Commission.
