Paid parking will not be implemented at the Hyperdome, the state government has confirmed amid rumours it would be required due to 50c bus fares.
Multiple businesses near transit hubs across the state told media they were contemplating installing boom gates to curb the influx of people predicted to use public transport once the 50c fare trial started.
According to reports, businesses were concerned customer parking would be taken over commuters.
But Springwood MP Mick de Brenni said this wasn’t the case at the Hyperdome.
“Despite the rumours, I can categorically rule out paid parking at the Hyperdome,” he said.
“With 50 cent fares kicked off, we’ve worked with their team to make sure there’s enough parking.”
