Hub delivering training and employment support, on track to open in 2026

The Logan Economic Hub, a centralised social infrastructure project that will deliver employment, training, and personal support to the community, is on track to meet its construction timeline and is expected to open to the public in July 2026.

The Logan Economic Hub is a joint $14.5 million project between the Queensland government and Settlement Services International (SSI), a not-for-profit that helps individuals, families, and children from diverse backgrounds, and was announced in November 2024.

SSI is currently accepting applications from community groups, organisations, and services to partner with to deliver the services the hub will provide, SSI’s head of client and community connections, Kenny Duke, said.

“The most important thing for us is to be able to service the community, families, and young people that will be coming through the economic hub,” Ms Duke said.

“We already have some local stakeholders that work with us in the gateway, and we hope to continue those partnerships over to the economic hub.

“We’re open to having discussions with small businesses, bigger businesses, and community partners to look at what we could do together with our shared purpose.”

In particular, SSI is looking to partner with community support networks and training providers who focus on delivering services to diverse groups, like First Nations people and women.

Ms Duke said the hub’s central location, Carmody St, Woodridge, was one with the potential to service the community across multiple areas.

“It’s a four-level building, and the purpose is really to provide that welcoming, safe space for every visitor coming through the door,” Ms Duke said.

“As you go up the levels, there are training rooms, shared spaces, and rentable offices, which will give people the opportunity to provide and seek tailored training.

“We’ve also been looking at how we can support a child-friendly space.”

The hub is on the hunt for a new name, Ms Duke said. The Logan Economic Hub is simply a stand-in while construction on the site is completed, but the community is encouraged to contact SSI via their website with suggestions.

“We’ve had all different ideas for a name”, Ms Duke said. “We branded the Logan hub to keep it simple and to encompass the work that is happening in the community.

“We’re definitely open to ideas, and we’re happy to take suggestions, to ensure the name encompasses the hub’s purpose and the work it will deliver.”
